On 1 March 2016, José Carlos Alvarez Tobar assumed the role of Chief Marketing and Sales Officer of the Weidmüller Group in Detmold, thus making him responsible for global sales and market communication. He succeeds Volpert Briel, who left the company at his own request.
José Carlos Alvarez Tobar has worked at Weidmüller as Managing Director of Weidmüller Spain, as well as Regional Manager of Southern Europe, for over 30 years. He is seen as a role model for the way in which he has successfully implemented the corporate strategy of the Weidmüller Group, particularly in the field of automation technology. “Our sales and marketing activities are centred around understanding our customers, working together with our customers to develop solutions and subsequently creating added value for customers,” explained Mr. Alvarez Tobar. In order to improve the future sustainability of the Weidmüller Group, future marketing and sales activities will mainly focus on reinforcing and expanding its global presence and customer proximity – particularly in the growth markets of Asia, IMEA and the Americas.
“We are delighted to have found a very experienced and successful manager in José Carlos Alvarez Tobar, who has rigorously implemented the measures needed for our Group to develop into a solution provider,” said Dr Peter Köhler, CEO of the Weidmüller Group.
Mr. Alvarez Tobar started his career with the company in 1979 as Managing Director of Weidmüller Spain. In 2003, he was handed the responsibility for the entire region of Southern Europe (France, Italy, Portugal, Spain, Switzerland and North Africa) and was appointed Executive Vice President Sales & Marketing for the Southern Europe region in 2012. He was subsequently made Senior Executive Vice President for Brazil and Latin America in 2015.
Mr. Alvarez Tobar was born in Seville, Spain, and now lives in Barcelona with his wife and three sons. He is a mechanical engineer and also holds a diploma in the PADE Senior Management Program from the Instituto Estudios Superiores Empresa (IESE) Business School in Barcelona. In addition to his Spanish mother tongue, he also speaks fluent English and German.
