Weidmüller rechargeable cutting and crimping wands: new EPG Cut 40 cutting tool and EPG 60 crimping tool for large cross-sections. – Simple processing of large wire cross-sections. – New tools to ensure efficient processing and secure connections at all times.
Weidmüller is offering new rechargeable, ergonomically designed wands for cutting and crimping large cable cross sections – the EPG Cut 40 cutting tool and the EPG 60 crimping tool. These tools represent an addition to Weidmüller's established range of tools for processing cables with large cross-sections, covering various areas of application and user requirements. The EPG Cut 40 rechargeable hydraulic cable cutter allows for the accurate cutting of cables with a diameter of up to 40 mm, while the EPG 60 rechargeable hydraulic crimping tool guarantees crimp connections compliant with international standards and regulations. EPG 60 is designed for processing cable lugs and connectors measuring from 6 mm2 to 300 mm2. There is a charge status indicator directly on the Li-ion battery (18 V, 1.5 Ah) and the remaining battery charge is also monitored. Both devices have a USB or mini USB port, e.g. for exporting all cycles and error messages, i.e. for documenting the working results.
For crimping tools, Weidmüller offers a wide range of cable lugs and connectors as well as the crimp inserts required for processing (half shell inserts) in WM format, hex format and mandrel crimping inserts. There are cable lugs and connectors (Euro range) for 6 mm2 to 300 mm2 and Cu crimp cable lugs (DIN range 46235) from 6 mm2 to 300 mm2, crimp (DIN 46234) and pin cable lugs (DIN 46230) and connectors (DIN 46341, part1) from 6 mm2 to 120 mm2.
Wherever power is generated and distributed, cables with large cross-sections are used to keep losses to a minimum. Reliable, safe and long-lasting connection of these cables is of particular importance, which is why cable lugs are crimped to their stripped ends. Weidmüller offers an extensive product line of cutting and crimping tools as well as cable lugs for large cross-sections. It creates the best connections between the cable and cable lug, in situations where conventional manual tools can no longer be used to process these cross-sections.
The new EPG 60 rechargeable crimping tool features a pressing force of 60 kN and a stroke of 17 mm. The rechargeable electro-hydraulic hand crimping tool is used for processing cable lugs and connectors of up to 300 mm2 and boasts a range of impressive properties. Its lightweight, compact, robust and ergonomic design allows for very fast processing thanks to the 3-way axial piston pump. EPG 60 has an automatic pressure-limiting function which is monitored using a pressure sensor. After crimping, the motor switches off; the reverse movement is automatic, but can also be manually operated, if required. Gentle opening and fast stopping increase the service life of the device. Every crimping operation is controlled and monitored electronically.
The intelligent electronic module with sleep mode, maintenance indicator and service control has two multi-function LEDs (3-colour). An internal memory records all of the crimps and error messages. Users can export all of the cycles and error messages via a USB port, as the device includes a mini-USB port for use with the current PC systems available. Since the remaining charge of the lithium-ion rechargeable battery (18 V, 1.5 Ah) is continuously monitored, aborted pressing cycles are a thing of the past. The motor control is also monitored, thus prolonging the service life of the gear unit, motor and battery. Integrated service management and software updates via the USB port translate into a high level of availability and up-to-date tool handling at all times. The following are supplied with the crimping tool: Li-ion rechargeable battery (18 V, 1.5 Ah) and charger, operating instructions, software, USB cable and a transport bag for tools and crimp inserts.
The new EPG 60 rechargeable hydraulic crimping tool covers a crimping range of 6 mm2 to 300 mm2 and has a stroke/opening width of 17 mm. With dimensions of 385 mm x 125 mm x 80 mm, the devices are compact in design and easy to handle at a weight of 3.3 kg (including rechargeable battery).
The EPG 60 crimping tool can be fitted with a range of crimp inserts. WM crimp inserts for Euro-range cable lugs and connectors, hexagon crimp inserts for aluminium and copper cable lugs and connectors (DIN 46235 and DIN 46267, part 1), indent crimp inserts for crimp cable lugs in accordance with DIN 46234, pin cable lugs in accordance with DIN 46230 and connectors in accordance with DIN 46341 part 1.
The EPG Cut 40, a rechargeable electro-hydraulic hand cutting device for processing stranded aluminium and copper wires of up to ∅ 40 mm, is also new and boasts a wide range of properties. For example, the EPG 40 has an open cutting head with endless rotation. Thanks to its lightweight, compact and robust design, the tool is easy to handle. Its 3-way axial piston pump means the battery hand cutting device is extremely quick to use. The electronic pressure sensor automatically limits and monitors the pressure for the EPG Cut 40 and also ensures accurate pressure settings with excellent repeat accuracy. In addition, the tool controls and monitors the cutting process electronically. Once the cutting process is complete, the motor cuts out and runs back automatically. Manual return is also possible from any position. In order to increase the service life of the gear unit, motor and rechargeable battery, the EPG Cut 40 has a motor control system.
The multifunctional electronics include the sleep mode, maintenance indicator and battery monitoring. Two multi-function LEDs (3-colour) are clearly visible on the electronics module, which saves all working cycles and error messages in the internal memory. The USB port allows for a log of all cycles and error messages to be exported. The rechargeable battery features a battery status indicator so users can quickly check how much charge is left. Integrated service management and software updates via the USB interface translate into a high level of availability and up-to-date tool handling at all times.
The rechargeable electro-hydraulic hand cutting device is able to process stranded aluminium and copper cables up to ∅ 40 m and has an operating force of 30 kN. The EPG Cut 40 covers the following cutting ranges: stranded copper cables to max. 1 x 240 mm² or 4 x 50 mm², aluminium to max. 1 x 500 mm² or 4 x 70 mm². Its compact design bears dimensions of 449 mm x 124 mm x 81 mm (with battery) and a weight of 2.8 kg (with battery). The rechargeable hand cutter is supplied with a transport bag, Li-ion battery (18 V, 1.5 Ah) and charger plus operating instructions, software and a USB cable.
Weidmüller offers a wide range of cable lugs and connectors, for example Euro-series cable lugs from 6 mm2 to 300 mm2 and DIN compression cable lugs in accordance with DIN 46235 for wire cross sections from 6 mm2 to 300 mm2. Both ranges are made from copper in accordance with DIN EN 13600 and feature a tin-plated surface finish. The cable lugs and connectors in the Euro range are processed with WM-format crimp inserts. Crimp inserts in hexagon format for Cu compression cable lugs (DIN 46235) and Cu compression connectors (DIN 46267 Part 1) are also available. Compression (DIN 46234) and pin cable lugs (DIN 46230) and connectors (DIN 46341) up to 240 mm2 can be processed using mandrel crimping inserts, which are also available from Weidmüller.
